Dedicated Simmental Breeders

The herd is run on commercial lines and is now the largest  fully polled Simmental herd in the UK. We run a closed herd with a high health status and only purchase new stock bulls. We are members of the Cattle Health Certification standards (CHeCS), and are free of BVD, IBR, Leptospirosis, Neospora and level 1 for Johne's disease. We have been free of Bovine Tuberculosis for a minimum of 7 years as accredited by CHeCS,   AI is used on heifers only. 30 -40 heifers are selected to join the herd each year. The remaining heifers are sold to other breeders.

We therefore have a selection of c.70 Pedigree breeding heifers for sale each year and also a small number of Pedigree Bulls which are selected at weaning.

Cows are fed on baled silage or hay when housed during the winter months. Cereals and straw are purchased from the arable belt at the bottom of the Chiltern Hills. A home mix ration is fed to the fattening bulls and a creep feed is fed to the calves in the three months prior to weaning.
